Greening of the building stock is a physical and economic challenge for the future of urbanization. Analysts and policymakers have a growing interest in the energy and environmental performance of the construction industry.
The main goal of the research is to provide viable possibilities to mitigate the energy consumption in the construction sector and develop new methods integrating physical and energy analyses, with the socioeconomic impact assessment.
Therefore, we have created a Geodatabase of a variety of architectural and technological typologies in different climates to demonstrate that sustainable materials can improve the energy performances. We have assessed different retrofitting scenarios and assessed the major socioeconomic impacts at different levels.
The project results in the creation of a GIS covering a variety of building types, city types along with a range of human development indices and population densities that governmental organizations might use as a resource for urban and regional planning.
