Abstract
Modernizing American Land Records: Order Upon the Chaos
Track: Cadastral and Land Records
Authors: Earl Epstein
American land records institutions are viewed as in a state of arrested development by individuals, organizations, and agencies who participate in the process of making plans, decisions, and actions that determine use of land and resources. This important process, land planning and management, provides a driving force for modernizing systems that provide land data and information to the various participants. The indicated types of land records that are ingredients, records' attributes, and institutional reorganization constituting a modern, multipurpose American Land Records System (ALRS) are described and discussed.
