Abstract
Dynamic Map Services: Automating Popup Production for the Flex Viewer
Track: Web and Server
Authors: Simon Ross
Feature popups offer a great way to rapidly access feature attributes through inbuil functionality in the Flex Viewer. For simple applications with a limited number of layers then using the application builder, ArcGIS online or manual data entry is an easy way to rapidly create the required XML files.
Working with dynamic map services, however, can mean many layers require popups to be created and some form of automation is required both to create them and to register them appropriately in the Flex Viewer configuration file.
This presentation will demonstrate a python scripting approach to automatically create the popup files and reference them to the appropriate service layer in the Flex Viewer. This approach enables updates to be rapidly carried out by the map service publishers and gives them flexibility to include or restrict layer popups from view through simple setup in ArcMap and the associated project geodatabase.
