Track: Database Design and Management

The US Air Force (AF) is in the process of implementing NexGen IT. This system will streamline the work flow, applications, and duties of the AF Civil Engineer. As part of the AF Civil Engineer, the GeoBase Program is working to determine how its wealth of geospatial data can be successfully consumed by NexGen IT. In anticipation of this migration, Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) has been working to centralize CAD and GIS data on an enterprise ESRI database. By standardizing on a common GIS platform, all Installation spatial data will be maintained in one intelligent, spatially-enabled database and compiled for streamlined inclusion with NexGen IT. This presentation will focus on issues AFMC faced to achieve ESRI/Autodesk integration on an ArcSDE platform in a DoD environment. Subjects such as workflow, architecture, and SDSFIE compliance will be addressed along with technical concerns and tips regarding versioning, Oracle configuration, and ArcSDE tuning.
