Abstract
Enterprise GIS Upgrade Process - Planning and Execution Methodologies Review
Track: Implementing Enterprise GIS

Organization-wide integrated Enterprise GIS (EGIS) workflows and database systems have greatly enhanced an organization's ability add value to existing data through spatial data analysis. However, the added layers of workflow and data dependencies pose significant challenges for system maintenance and upgrade lifecycles. Resources must not only be dedicated to the EGIS, but the dependent systems and data as well; such as CMMS and CIS platforms. Proper coordination, planning and execution of an EGIS upgrade can save considerable man hours, budget, and provide an opportunity to reengineer your workflows. This paper explores methods to evaluate your existing EGIS system and other dependent systems; determine improvements that should be made to hardware, software, databases and workflows; plan for the improvements and upgrades; and implement the transition. This paper further explores a case study of the Prince William County Service Authority's (PWCSA) EGIS upgrade project.
