Track: Pipeline and Gas Utilities

Given an ever stringent regulatory environment concerning adequate support for reliable, traceable, verifiable, and complete records establishing MOP and MAOP, the management of and confidence in maximum operating pressure data is among pipeline operators' chief priorities. In 2011, Chevron Pipe Line Company undertook a joint project executed by GIS, Engineering, and IT groups to deliver a solution ensuring that maximum operating pressure information for company-operated pipeline systems is properly recorded in PODS and accessible to appropriate stakeholders. Addressing prior deficiencies in data centralization, standardization, and availability, the project team deployed a web-based data collection solution and supporting business processes and procedures enabling a single repository and consistent methodology for managing MOP/MAOP and associated source data. This presentation will explore the project's journey, successes and challenges in adapting PODS to suit operational needs, enabling new business processes through technology, and accomplishing organizational change.
