Abstract
Mapping and Analysis of Historical Low-Water Event: Red Rock Reservoir
Track: Water Resources
Authors: Derek Smith
In the fall of 2010, the Red Rock Reservoir, just southeast of Des Moines, IA, was drawn down to facilitate the repair of the dam and its gates. The Army Corps of Engineers - Rock Island District took advantage of the historic low water event by requesting aerial imagery and LiDAR acquisition to accurately map the depleted lake and its bed. The acquired topographic data was hydro-flattened to maintain monotonicity, which was then followed by surface generation within LP360 and ArcGIS. The ArcGIS generated data products will be used for design, research, dam safety assessments, hydrologic modeling and area capacity curves. The mapping processes and derivative products will be viewed in a 3D stereo viewing environment. 3D glasses will be provided.
