Southern Union Gas, Panhandle Energy and Energy Transfer have merged into a large, complex midstream company providing transportation for oil and gas resources across the US. Along with these mergers came the challenge of developing an efficient way to manage their assets. They decided to leverage GIS as a central part of their asset management strategy. They created 8 corporate SDE databases to record their centerline, pipe segments, and associated assets with standardized data models and editing workflows.
Afterwards, Energy Transfer created several applications for users across the enterprise to use in their day to day workflows. These applications include an application for Pilots to use while inspecting Rights of Way from the air, an integrated SCADA operations application and an asset tracking web application. These have allowed management and employees to have better visibility into the company's holdings and interact with each other in a more informed fashion.
