Abstract
Leveraging GIS to improve school site operations
Track: Education and Training
Authors: Michael O'Neill
Banning High School GIS is currently designing content to be delivered to site and district administrators through ArcGIS online. This process began in Fall 2011, when GIS students carried out a comprehensive safety survey of the campus following new construction. Students then used ArcMap 10.0 to translate their field work into new evacuation maps. Further field work resulted in the first good basemap of the Banning High School campus. GIS students are currently working with site administration to expand the data available for this site. By working with site administration, GIS students will be able to not only master skills needed in the workplace but help streamline the operations of the school site itself.
