Government departments in Loudoun County, Virginia require field data collection as part of their business processes. In the past, these departments collected data using GPS, cameras and paper forms. The out of the box mobile solutions provided by ESRI allows for field data collection on mobile devices and saving directly to a spatial database.
Through developing better workflows leveraging ArcGIS Mobile for Smartphone and ArcGIS Mobile for Windows departments in the County, such as Public Safety and Transportation, can collect the data they require in the field. Public Safety benefits through real time analysis of field data by office staff. Transportation benefits by eliminating paper workflows and data transfer. Both these projects have been test driven and are being implemented. This presentation talks about the strengths, opportunities and workarounds in setting up both types of mobile solutions.
