The Addressing Storm Cometh
Track: Computer-Aided Dispatch and 911
Authors: Tom East
The enormous growth in the number of location-aware portable computing devices such as smart phones and tablets, and the future potential for wearable technology are the driving forces behind the development of Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG 9-1-1) services.
GIS is at the core of the design of NG 9-1-1 which will be driven using address point and street centerline geodatabases, and highly detailed normalized address databases adhering to accepted standards.
This presentation discusses some of the difficulties that can be expected in the preparation of these databases for NG 9-1-1 services, describes the challenges encountered by LINK-GIS, and includes recommendations of standards which provide guidance for those beginning this process.
