Developing a GIS Based Community Fire Risk Assessment Model
Track: Fire, Rescue, and EMS
Authors: Robert Oblinsky, GISP, Thomas Tucker
This session will explore the steps necessary to develop a data model for a parcel based fire risk assessment. Topics will include identification of a critical path and scope; analysis of potential data sources; methodologies for extracting, transforming and loading the data into the model; methodologies for assigning weights to input variable and evaluating the impact of these weights on the model results; analysis and presentation of the final results of the risk model and; products, processes and procedures developed based on the fire risk model.
The session will follow the Chesterfield Fire and EMS's development of a Fire Risk Assessment model. CFEMS decision points will be identified and potentials for improvement will be discussed. This session will ensure that all participants go back to their organization with a firm understanding of the requirements of a GIS based Risk Assessment model.
