Abstract
Imposing Order on Our World (of Facilities) with GIS
Track: Facilities
Authors: Carol Crutchfield
BCSD recently brought facilities management in-house after years of working with outsourced consultants/contractors. The number one task at this time was imposing order on what had become a disorganized accumulation of facilities data and documentation.
Our GIS for Facilities solution is used to catalog project history, maintain and manage real property, assets and infrastructure, and perform life cycle planning. Facilities project managers are now able to quickly collect, find, use, share and update data, on the desktop and in the field, making the department more effective and productive. Our new solution allows us to paint a complete picture of our facilities infrastructure.
With our GIS, we now understand how, why and where our resources are expended in support of the BCSD mission, "To ensure excellence in education for every learner that prepares each with the knowledge, skills and personal responsibility to succeed in a rapidly changing global society."
