Abstract
Solid Waste Vehicle Routing/Redistricting Using Network Analyst
Track: Public Works
Authors: Dene OConnor
This project is to develop a more cost effective route for fleet vehicles collecting solid waste in the City of Redlands, California. ESRI Network Analyst is used to calculate the optimal point-to-point collection route, by analyzing a network of street data to minimize turns and overall mileage driven. The streets grade elevation is also factored in, this will allow vehicles to travel uphill with lighter loads, therefore maintaining better fuel efficiency. The results are expected to produce a substantial reduction in the departments fuel cost, overall miles driven, and hours of labor. The analysis is being conducted on select study area which can then be expanded to the remaining extent of the city.
