Gas stations are on every corner, but without public electric vehicle charging stations, we will never be able to easily transition to a cleaner, more efficient, and cheaper mean of travel. I've spent the last 3 years developing web map application interfaces to both survey and educate the public about how EVs can replace at least 2/3 of the trips people make with gasoline cars. The web maps we developed allowed our research team to look into the personal driving habits of people throughout California to better understand where we should be building charging stations and how these stations could impact EV range and yearly vehicle miles traveled on electricity. It also gave instant feedback to the individual taking our survey approximately how much they were spending per year on gasoline and how much they could save by replacing most of their trips with a pure electric vehicle.
