Custom Collision Analysis with Python

The Segment Analysis Tool is a custom GIS tool developed using Python and ArcGIS geoprocessing tools. The tool uses route, network, and collision data to locate and assess collision patterns. Users define a roadway study segment length and percent overlap to produce a series of line segments. Each segment is compared with nearby collisions and given a rank according to the number of collisions per segment. This allows user to pinpoint areas exhibiting high incidences of collisions. The tool has been used to acquire funding for a series of highway safety projects.
