Using an Esri/Internet-based portal to improve food sustainability in Bangladesh
Track: Agriculture
Authors: Larry Newman
CNFA, a non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C., is working on a project designed to improve the ability of local agricultural producers in Bangladesh to establish and operate a sustainable food production system in the southern delta region. The system will support over 3,000 agro input retailers serving over 1 million stakeholders impacting more than 5 million individuals across 20 districts. In support of the U.S. Feed the Future (FTF) program, CNFA's approach makes extensive use of Esri's GIS technology in a web-based portal that combines soil, land use, weather, transportation, population and other inputs along with retailer locations, farm plot locations, and crop nutritional data to assist in planning and managing crop yields to support the local population. This presentation will demonstrate the system and explain how it is used to support this important initiative.
