Track: Census and Statistical Data
Authors: Kaile Bower, Ama Danso
The U.S. Census Bureau is implementing a national geocoding service solution supporting its internal business needs, other federal agencies, and the general public. The geocoding service provides a uniform enterprise resource for all divisions within the Bureau while adhering to security requirements. The solution supports field operations, research, analysis, and resolution of un-geocoded addresses. It is based on a service oriented component based architecture with web interface, batch option and a flexible solution with modular services to meet diverse needs. It leverages commercial geocoding applications such as ESRI's Locator and integrates with other Census Bureau technology offerings such as the Web Mapping Service. The core capabilities include single address geocoding, batch geocoding, access to interpolated latitude/longitude coordinates, TIGER/Line ID, side, and an extensive look up service allowing access to all levels of geographic codes and vintages maintained in the Bureau's MAF/TIGER database.
