Abstract
Where GIS fits in the Pipeline Integrity Technology Stack
Track: Pipeline and Gas Utilities
Authors: Tom Helmer, Chris Vana
This presentation will provide a system reference architecture to support gas pipeline integrity and ensures as a by-product obtaining PAS-55 certification. The system reference architecture comprises of eight technologies and the presentation will highlight why GIS technology is a vital component to four of the technologies that make up the system stack. The business activities associated with managing pipeline will be mapped to the eight technologies and for each technology, business activity pair a set of applications, interfaces and data requirements will be discussed. The business activities to be covered are: as-built recording, preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, operations, system planning, integrity management, linear referenced asset management, portfolio optimization. Based on the system reference architecture, the PAS-55 activities will be mapped to the technology stack and to the enabling applications and integrations provided by the facility information system reference architecture.
