By discussing a number of case studies, the presenter illustrates how UAV technology (Gatewing X100) opened new business opportunities for base mapping and spatial monitoring in Suriname. Apart from the traditional mining and construction applications, the UAV technology is also used for non-invasive data aquisition within the traditional Indiginous settlements in the rainforest and savannah of Suriname. Highly accurate image products aquired by the UAV, a very short deployment time of the mapping team and the non-invasive character of data gathering formed a breakthrough in traditional spatial data aquisition in Suriname. The presentation will illustrate how modern technology is used to support traditional local settlements in their efforts to preserve their community within the growing industrial activities within their habitat.
