Many Ministries of Education are looking for ways of improving its educational management system. Information management of huge number of schools and students often pose big challenges, thus school location analysis and resource allocation has never been carried out efficiently. GIS-based school mapping system is one of the efficient ways to meet these challenges.
The paper presents a pilot project on a GIS-based school mapping system that was implemented in managing regional educational data. The system comprise an ArcGIS for analysis and display of data layers, a centralized database for storing and managing spatial and non-spatial data, and a Graphic User Interface for decentralized data entry by schools. The system can be used as an Educational Decision Support System for education management that will improve the integration of information and decision making. It will enable administrators and planners to effectively and efficiently deploy resources to needy institutions and communities.
