Abstract
OMV Spatial Information & Knowledge Infrastructure
Track: Implementing Enterprise GIS
Authors: Andreas Richter
This presentation looks at the adoption of geospatial IT trends and governance aspects as architectural key elements for turning the categorization, search, access and presentation of spatial data and information in the oil & gas business into concrete benefits.
Spatial information use today is characterized by specialized integration and technical or organizational boundaries in terms of sharing. Nevertheless, it has been verified that spatial information is regarded as most useful if it's shared and provided in an easy-to-use manner for both GIS and non-GIS users. Therefore contextual web applications and the use of online platforms and portals as central nodes are key elements in the idea of broad spatial integration connecting information providers with consumers in enterprises. While technological aspects have already been widely discussed, organizational considerations and governance play a major role in designing modern enterprise SDIs in order to meet requirements of decision-making processes.
