Abstract
Improving Deployment Efficiency through Applied Location Analytics
Track: Electric Utilities
Authors: Faye Hall
What do you do with 97,000,000 new data records every day when something is going wrong? Apply location analytics to identify the priority issues. As utilities embark on smart grid deployments, the amount of data the enterprise manages and analyzes increases. Basic analytics provides basic information. Location analytics correlates data spatially identifying trends that otherwise would not have been available. During smart grid deployments, the integration of meter data with spatial data allowed for identification of:
• Meter failures due to communication issues (density heat maps),
• Meter failures due to power outages (clustering), and
• Failing equipment
• Incorrect installation practices (buffering and thematic mapping)
Each of these instances saved utilities through reduced truck rolls or targeted truck rolls since they could easily identify ideal candidates for investigations.
This session will discuss how location analytics was applied to big data to save the utilities time, effort, and money.
