3D-Aerodromes is a program funded by the European Commission EUROSTARS Program and the R&D funds contributed by the three Member States of Germany, Greece and Italy. It was initiated in 2010 and will be completed in 2013.
Europe has 2000+ airports, most of which provide no ground-based ILS approach procedures. To support the navigation of General Aviation aircraft in the vicinity of the airport the 3D Geodatabases support primarily the navigation of small and medium-sized aircraft during landing and ground movements. The GIS workflows to producing the Databases with ESRI Technology are including the integration of remote sensing data, terrain and obstacle data, navigation data, CAD data of airports and the creation of 50 European template databases that will serve as the basis for a standardization of 3D airport and airport vicinity data.
