Child Welfare in Appalachia

We learned from this analysis that Appalachian children suffer more severe poverty than the national average; rates for children being removed from their homes and entering the child welfare system are higher than the national entry rate.
The mapping of community resources (or lack of) helped jurisdictions identify service gaps and lack of community participation in helping youth become contributing and healthy youth adults.
