Abstract
Environmental Benefits of Trees on an Urban University Campus
Track: Conservation
Authors: Rama Sivakumar
Value of trees to quality of resident's life on an urban university campus has shown to be significant. In addition, these trees provide significant environmental services such as the lowering of ambient temperature during the summer, intercepting stormwater, energy conservation, and filtering pollutants from air and waterto name a few. This presentation attempts to highlight a comprehensive tree inventory program at Georgia Tech using ArcGIS framework as a management tool and quantifies ecological benefits from more than 11000 trees on campus.
