GIS science and technology is supporting the needs of EU member states for standardised information on european health accessing accessing disease maps and spatial information that are reliable, uptodate and approved at EU level.
EMMA, the Mapping & Multilayer Analysis project of ECDC, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, is proposing a solution to this need. Such a GIS centralised system in fact enables Memebr States and EU experts to explore and share standardised disease spatial data and to apply GIS tools to author, catalogue and retrieve disease maps using official ECDC templates.
