Abstract
The Galician Coastal Management Plan (POL)
Track: Urban and Regional Planning
Authors: Manuel Borobio Sanchiz
Management Plan is an unified coastal planning instrument. Its objective is to establish the criteria, principles, and general guidelines for managing urbanism models in coastal areas based on durability and sustainability. The POL represents a systemic approach to planning,as well as being a model of relational and dynamic management which is far removed from traditional linear models. Not only has it set limits for the regulation of various key elements, but it also focuses on the dynamic processes implicit in the sociological co-evolution of the area. This is achieved by means of a model whose structure draws on various complementary and co-existing elements. One of the distinctive characteristics of this plan is to use the systems of geographical information intensively. The purpose is to facilitate dialogue between fieldwork and map-making, which will lead to a new way of reading and understanding the territory supported by the multidimentinality of the landscape as a tool for interpretation.
