Cloud based GIS Decision Support System for Waste Water management

This paper investigates and exploress cloud computing oriented architecture in developing distributed web services. The web service offers online Geo-spatial modelling to local authorities in Ireland, using ESRI ArcGIS server10.1 to assist in the comparison of several strategies for waste water management in areas of low permeability subsoil. Solutions are based on applicability as well as cost and environmental sustainability. Onsite wastewater treatment systems (OSWTS) have been mapped in ArcMap 10.1 using An Post Geo Directory data. Buffering and kernel density have been applied and the resultant maps are published on ArcGIS Server as map services. An Rich Internet Applications is designed using the ArcGIS VIEWER along with a customized widget developed in flash builder to access the geoprocessing services published on ArcGIS Server 10.1.This web-based decision support system will assist in the evaluation of several strategies in the treatment and disposal of wastewater effluent in areas of low permeability.
