Abstract

Using Remote Sensing to Assess Climatic Impacts on tange Saumtre
Track: Climate Change

Interpretation of remotely sensed landsat imagery yields evidence of recent global climate change effects on tange Saumtre, Haiti. Since 2004, increased storm frequency and intensity combined with anthropogenic perturbations have dramatically altered the physical characteristics of the lake, resulting in localized flooding. This analysis demonstrates a 17.4% increase in lake area over a 17 year period and indentifies areas prone to future flooding, and will facilitate mitigation efforts.
