This paper describes a novel implementation for finding bottlenecks on a terrain through a suite of Python based geoprocessing tools for ArcMap using least-cost path analysis and Monte Carlo simulation. A hypothetical use case of rescuing a hiker lost is presented in this paper by generating hundreds of possible routes between the last known locations of the hiker and the park entrances based on a cost surface, yielding areas of the terrain that are most suited to finding the hiker.
