Abstract
Using 3D data to Create an Electronic Airport Layout Plans
Track: Aviation
Authors: Kelsey Mandli
For years, the creation of Airport Layout Plans (ALPs) has been an excruciatingly manual process. The effort can take over a year to complete.
One of the ways to create snapshots of airports is through the use of 3D scanning technologies. A majority of the data collection can be done in just days, alleviating the need for the longterm closure of runways during peak times. The result is a robust GIS dataset that can be used by the many levels of airport operations and maintenance.
