Abstract
The Pedestrian Evacuation Analyst for Tsunami Hazards
Track: Disaster and Emergency Management
Authors: Jeanne Jones
Coastal emergency managers are examining community exposure to potentially catastrophic tsunami hazards. The USGS developed a modeling tool to provide emergency managers with valuable information on the size, location, and potential evacuation challenges of at-risk population groups. The model estimates evacuation potential based on elevation, direction of movement, land cover, and travel speed and also provides the capability to evaluate the effectiveness of vertical-evacuation structures.
