The worst natural disaster in Brazil's history occurred in January 2011 and directly affected the mountainous region of the State of Rio de Janeiro. With the use of ArcGIS 10.2’s new image analysis tools, including Slider, NDVI and Difference, in addition to Georeferencing Auto Registration, it was possible, as never before, to understand more broadly the consequences of the tragedy and the configuration of the vegetation and land occupation in the region, before and after the event.
