The Durham Neighborhood Compass is a quantitative project with qualitative values. Keeping neighborhood identity forward in its design, the Compass uses ESRI geoprocessing tools to quantify measurements of service delivery, citizen engagement, and social and environmental outcomes that reflect neighborhood vitality. Recognizing the link between awareness and action, the Compass serves visual comparisons of its measurements across neighborhoods to guide both resident and government interventions.
