Abstract
Drainage Area Delineation for Storm Water Drains from LiDAR Data

To support storm water modeling, GIS professionals determined how much area each storm drain on a DOD facility would provide water drainage for during a storm event. The GIS professionals looked to Esri's hydrology toolset, which is designed for natural watersheds, not man-made ones, to delineate watersheds using drain locations as pour points and LiDAR as surface input. The GIS professionals modified the surface terrain by creating a sink hole terrain around each storm drain.
