Abstract
Estimating Shallow Groundwater Recharge Using Spatial Rainfall Data

Quantifying shallow groundwater recharge in complex terrains is challenging from the standpoint of local variations in rainfall, runoff, and infiltration. Point source precipitation data may not completely capture the complex spatial factors involved in aquifer recharge. We show the spatial effects of precipitation variability on shallow aquifer dynamics using radar-derived rainfall estimates along with GIS data for land use - land cover, soils, terrain, and subsurface characteristics.
