Abstract
ComEd Manhole Database and GIS Interface
Track: Electric Utilities
Authors: Shannon Grimes, Lane Moeller
From 2012-2017, ComEd will assess (and repair) 27,346 manholes. A major hindrance is the amount of data that needs to be collected from the field, sorted by a back office group, and then stored somewhere that it is accessible to both field and office employees. A web-based GIS now serves as a user-friendly interface that is accessed by hundreds of employees. Network analysis allows work planners to select the best route in order to complete assessments and repairs as efficiently as possible.
