Using GIS to reduce out-of-route mileage in long haul trucking.

The GIS team at Werner Enterprises developed an application enabling users to review the execution of historical shipments and see recommended router versus the actual path driven. The users can then quickly identify a reason for the out-of-route, and educate associates in order to minimize future out-of-route. This application allows us to more clearly understand the severity of out-of-route and associated costs so that we can work to reduce them and generate an operating cost reduction.
