Abstract
Our Local Surroundings and Sentiments on Twitter
Track: Big Data
Authors: Therese Norman, Wesley DeWitt
This paper utilizes geotagged Twitter data in order to examine how geographical patterns of sentiments expressed online regarding individuals’ physical and emotional health relates to the local surroundings (socioeconomic and environmental). Additionally, we show how the results can be disseminated to the public through an interactive web map with LA County as the study area. The research enhances our understanding of a location’s impact on public health.
