Abstract
Where Are The Trucks?: Using GPS Data To Drive Port Decision Making
Track: Ports and Maritime
Authors: Shane Pittman, Andrew Stanevicius
Port Metro Vancouver's fleet of container trucks is equipped with GPS units that collect almost 20 million points each month. Presented with the challenge of importing and analyzing all of this data, the Port’s Spatial Data Group, along with TranSystems (a transportation solutions consultant) worked to develop a series of tools to automate this process. The output is used to guide the Port’s discussions around regional transportation planning and container terminal wait times.
