How to bring the power of GIS into a CAD centric airport environment

Airports are unique. They need their data in CAD and need GIS tools for analysis and distribution of their data to the enterprise. Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has been able to create an environment that fulfills both requirements. The approach allows IMTG at LAWA to maintain the fidelity of CAD data and utilize GIS tools thus increasing their productivity. The concepts and the associated tools behind the approach are presented in this paper.
