Abstract
FEMA/NRIAG Hazus Earthquake Risk Assessment for Cairo
Track: Disaster and Emergency Management
Authors: Jesse Rozelle, Doug Bausch
Cairo is the capital of Egypt and the largest city in the Arab world and Africa, and the 16th largest metropolitan area in the world. Therefore, a seismic risk assessment for Cairo represents a crucial application of the Hazus MH earthquake loss estimation model for risk management. Seismic hazard, earthquake catalogs, soil types, demographics, and building inventories were integrated into Hazus MH to produce a sound earthquake risk assessment for Cairo, including economic and social losses.
