Evaluating the Visual Impact of Development on Mount Vernon's Viewshed

Much effort has gone in to protecting Mount Vernon’s viewshed but evaluating the impact of new development across the Potomac River remains a challenge. To help users understand the effect of proposed actions early in the planning phase, we created a toolbox that models the visual impact of development. Using this data, we created an interactive web map that shows how much of a proposed building would be visible as well as the trees that are responsible for screening the project from the estate.
