Obesity is an emerging epidemic in the US. The purpose of this project was to identify elements of the built environment that are associated with obesity related health outcomes. Innovative techniques to measure the built environment were developed using GIS. The association between built environment indicators and health outcomes was analyzed using geospatial and statistical modeling. This project provides public health professionals with new approaches to measuring the built environment.
