Integrating R in a GIS environment for National Forest planning

A current need of the National Forest System is to understand the resources within its boundaries. With downsizing budgets, Forests have been relying on data from the US, Forest Service, Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) program; a program which collects and maintains a comprehensive database of information on forest lands across the US. This paper describes a tool within ArcMap for integrating FIA data with spatial data and generating estimates of resources within Forest boundaries.
