Abstract
Critters and Collisions in Calgary
Track: Parks, Natural Reserves, Fisheries, and Wildlife Management
Authors: Vanessa Carney, Leah Blair
Developed from 10 years of citizen reports and emergency services records, a wildlife-vehicle collision hotspot model identifies areas in Calgary that are significant barriers to wildlife movement. Combining risk and mitigation cost analyses for large mammals, Calgary explores where and how city planners can improve landscape connectivity and reduce safety risks to wildlife and citizens. Tools like ArcGIS Online story maps will be used to communicate the issue to City managers and the public.
