Abstract
GIS in Oil & Gas: Historic Map Digitizing in the Marcellus Shale
Track: Petroleum
Authors: Lacey Selvoski
The oil & gas industry is booming in Pennsylvania after the discovery of the Marcellus Shale. Range’s GIS staff provides maps to the mineral land department. One data source the land department uses is historic maps from the early 1900’s for their title research process. The GIS team was asked to georeference these maps and digitize farm lines and well locations from them. This presentation will give a detailed look at how this process was completed and how valuable it is to Range Resources.
