Impact of shale gas production on water resources in The Netherlands

Groundwater sources need to be protected for drinking water purposes. The water demand during drilling and fracking and wastewater production during future gas production in Noord Brabant need to be assessed. Using ArcGIS 10.1, Spatial Analyst and the ModelBuilder functionality a set of tools is designed to model the spatial and temporal (50 years) distribution of shale gas production, water demand and wastewater production. The results are presented in the form of maps and animations in ArcGIS.
