Track: Economic Development
Authors: Avijit Sarkar
The US medical devices manufacturing industry valued at $110 billion in 2012 is challenged by a rapidly aging population, skills shortage in the workforce and regulations emerging from the Affordable Care Act. In this research, we examine concentrations of medical device manufacturers in the US using data from Esri’s Business Analyst Desktop. Potential for economic development spurred by medical device manufacturing in the Coachella Valley region of Riverside County, California is also analyzed.
